Dale Earnhardt Jr. and company plan to open a new location of  Whisky River in Jacksonville Town Center night club in spring 2010  in Jacksonville, Fla. The club will be located in The Markets at St. Johns Town Center on the city’s Southside. Whisky River in Jacksonville Town Center Opened in March 2010 it was an amazing grand opening date.
Not that Junior asked my opinion, but it would sure make more sense to me to open the Whisky River in Jacksonville Town Center during Daytona Speedweeks. Jacksonville isn’t too far from the track and just think about all the hype you could drum up for the big opening night of  Whisky River in Jacksonville Town Center. Plus, an appearance by Dale Jr. himself sure wouldn’t be bad for business.

The Grape in Jacksonville Town Center

By JMartin  //  The Grape Jacksonville Town Center  //  Comments Off

The Grape-The food here is so, so given that it’s primarily a wine bar.  However, most patrons do not go for the food.  Rather, wine drinkers fill this St. Johns Town Center hot spot for its live music and large wine selection.  In fact, The Grape likely has the largest selection of wines by the glass in Jacksonville.  However, patrons can still choose to order either a full bottle if they so desire.  Along with the normal sized glass option, diners can also order a taste of most wines on the menu.  Although only a small sample, the taste option allows diners to create their own wine flight.  We prefer this option because it allows us to try a variety of wines at a reasonable price.  Our favorites are the ’07 Kreush Auslese Riesling, Rheinhessen, Germany ($6 taste, $10 glass, $40 bottle), ’08 Molly Dooker “Maitre D” Cabernet, South Australia ($65 bottle), and the ’07 MacMurray Ranch Pinot Noir, Sonomal Coast, ($6 taste, $11 glass, $40 bottle).

My Friday night date here a few weeks ago was neither dismal nor outstanding. We sat at the bar and quickly recieved a bottle of wine and placed our order. While we waited a magician came by and did some tricks but his halatosis was almost breath taking. The food arrived quickly and was a nice complement to the wine. Although I do believe that the meals were overpriced for what you get. It did seem like some of the staffers were having some sort of debate and one of the gals walked off pouting. All this seemed to be at the demise off those not seated at the bar. I would go again and just order some apps and wine.

The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but tomake it that far you have to be disguised as baked goods. Today’s Groupon pierces hearts with cookie spears: for $6, you get $12 worth of made-from-scratch delectable treats and eats at A Sweet to Eat Bake Shop, located on Gate Parkway.

Jacksonville Bakery

A Sweet to Eat Bake Shop’s menu features all kinds of handcrafted creamy, crunchy, and cupcakey creations. The shop’s signature chocolate chunk cookies are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, speckled with hunks of Belgian chocolate, and sprinkled with just a dash of sea salt for a rounded-out finish ($2.25 each). Defy the same misguided masses who said you couldn’t milk a lizard, and have dessert for breakfast with a bite of fruit rugelach (three for $2), a Linzer torte slice ($3.99), a buttery, balanced scone ($1.25), or a neatly wrapped cannoli ($2.25). Cupcake flavors include red velvet, strawberry, and lemon, with buttercream headdresses offered in shades of vanilla, peanut butter, cream cheese, strawberry, and more ($2 each, bite-size $0.50 each). Lure unsuspecting neighbors into cleaning your caramel-sauce-filled pool with an aptly placed pie on the windowsill; choices include the key lime pie ($24), the tried-and-true apple lattice ($20), and the svelte, sugar-free apple lattice ($20). A Sweet to Eat also presents a large cake selection (starting at $24, cookie cakes $15) and a selection of savory snacks such as individual servings of cheesy popcorn ($1.50), roasted nuts ($3), and homemade Chex mix ($1.50).

Chef Elizabeth of A Sweet to Eat Bake Shop formerly worked at New York City’s acclaimed Magnolia Bakery before bringing her talent for satisfying sweet teeth down south. Unlike competitor bakeries, whose cupcakes are iced in the likeness of John Belushi, her confectionaries are as pretty as they are tasty, with colorful sprinkle options, festive cupcake decor, and elegantly topped tortes.

  • We tried the chocolate chunk sea salt cookie…and were very pleased. The cookie was still semi-warm and the chocolate melted in our mouths. – George Singeltary, Examiner.com
  • The Belgian chocolate chunk cookies with sea salt are this bakery’s specialty for good reason. They are the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever tasted. – hannahpotter12, Urbanspoon

Late night crash in the St. Johns Town Center area. Drive Carefully!!!

By JMartin  //  Traffic  //  Comments Off

One motorist died and another was in serious condition after a late-night crash in the St. Johns Town Center area on the Southside.

The accident occurred about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when a red Mercedes going in one direction on Gate Parkway jumped the divider line and struck another vehicle going the other way head on, according to Robert Peck, a detective with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The crash, near Gate and Town Center parkways by the mall, left a pile of tangled red and dark metal and car parts in the road.

Peck said the male driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at Shands Jacksonville. The driver of the other vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup, had non-life-threatening but serious injuries, Peck said.

Police at the scene were still conducting an investigation and did not release the identities of the victims nor the cause of the crash.
