JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Did you check your Twitter or Facebook account on your cell phone today? Increasingly, more and more people are using social media on their phones to not only communicate with friends but find great deals. Here’s a look at how you can score some great bargains by pushing some buttons or tapping a screen.
Let’s start off with a fun little phone app called Foursquare. It allows you to check-in at the places you go. Some of those places have special deals. Here are a few good ones I found around Jacksonville. Check-In at Cantina Laredo at the St. John’s Town Center and get free queso at your table. Also at the Town Center, Foursquare users can get 5 free 4 by 6 prints at Ritz Camera and Image. Just in time for Christmas, Sports Authority off Arlington Expressway will give Foursquare users a $25 cash card when they spend 100-bucks. Also, check-in at the Cummer Museum of Art and get one free admission
TWITTER & FACEBOOK
Twitter and Facebook have tons of deals daily. Here’s a quick way to get the best deals for you. Jot down a short list of your favorite retailers and brands. Do a quick web search of the name followed by the word Facebook or Twitter. The first listing is usually the company’s Facebook or Twitter page. Click through to the page, then click “Like” or “Follow.” You’ll be the first to know about the company’s deals.
CheapTweet is a website that complies all the best twitter deals based on twitter conversations. You can search for deals or filter them in something called “deal stream.”
Every Day Amazon throws up a few “lightning deals”on their site. They are items sold at deep discounts for just a hour or two. You can sign up for their Twitter Feed to get the latest deal.
And of course, there are the half-off coupon sites like groupon, living social, daily deals and dealchicken.com which is owned by our parent company Gannett.
There are also a number of blogs that post the best coupons, bargains and freebies on the internet. Make sure to check out couponcravings.com, stretchingabuck.com and MrsMoneysaver.com.
Finding a good deal may take some work but follow these tips and you may just find it’s worth your time.
